http://www.tamu-commerce.edu/coas/history/sarantakes/Okinawa.html 16 January 2000 (website) This web site devoted to the Okinawa postwar history is subdivided into six sections, Biographical Essays, Chronology, Photos, Annotated Bibliographies, Recognition and Accolades and Related Sites. It could be read by a general audience, yet it is entirely unclear who the author(s) are. The Biographical Essays give two to four sentence summaries of various American, Japanese and Okinawan figures and their involvement in US Occupation of Okinawa. The Chronology gives a year-by-year summary of military action as well as Japanese and American policies from 1945-1972. The photo gallery includes photographs from World War Two, of both Japanese and American fighters, peace treaties and policies, as well as various political cartoons. The Annotated Bibliography covers Archives, Books, Film, Newspapers, and Oral Histories. Each site lists numerous sources, and gives extremely brief critiques. The Recognition and Accolade site offers links to various newspapers which contain those articles. The links page is subdivided into seven categories: Sites with Links to Okinawa: The American Years, American Sites, Japanese Sites, Okinawan Sites, Military Sites, Research Sites and Newspapers. This website offers a wealth of information, presented in a strictly factual fashion. It covers mostly the military and political aspects of American Occupation of Okinawa. While the website is not written with any particular bias, it does seem to offer more American information, such as most of the bibliographies cover American figures, and the photos and cartoons are from American papers. Visually the site is organized, however, does not have a title, nor author. It is not entirely clear who sponsors it. Hamil Pearsall |
